Justin Hawkins and The Darkness

I was a massive, massive Darkness fan I went to the gigs, I saw them in Paris (twice), had drinks with them in Cao Ba in Paris. Wonderful time being a fan in the early days.

I made some wonderful friends on the Offical Darkness Forum about 4 years ago and those online relationships turned to wonderful real life friendships which I still have today. Myself and 5 others decided it was time to put out love of the band, music and journalism into one tidy package called Optimum Impact (Named from Justin's own ramblings)We had a lot of fun with that magazine and although I don't write as much for it as I wish I did it's still going, held up by Jo and Davey. (The famous pic of The Six on our first meeting ^)

Anyway, The Darkness meant a lot more to me than just a band because I met so many wonderful people through them who shared the love that I did.

Although we got to go to some awesome places via the magazine (Darkness press conference, numerous free gigs etc) we get no recognition from the band. That hurt. So we changed our selves from a print Darkness fanzine to an online mostly, but not exclusively, Darkness E-zine.

Right enough of my life story, basically everything changed for me when Frankie left the band, simply because I had always been a Frankie fan. (I named my dog after him, woo)See the dog to the right, MY Frankie. Bouncy Spaniel.

Anyways, I found that Frankie was leaving right as it was posted by Webbie because I was up writing stories on the internet at 1 in the morning. I was pretty upset but then all these stories surfaced of why Frankie left. I don't know whether they were true or not and I'm not in a position to take sides because accusations of that severity aren't much to do with the fans.

Beautiful Richie replaced Frankie as bassist and although I tried so so hard to love them as much as I had it was a lot harder. I enjoyed the second album very much and I saw them with Richie at the UEA just before their final tour. Apart from being able to hear my self sing along with the songs it was a good gig. Wasn't too happy about standing around in the cold afterwards though. Brrr.

The band were never the same for me and when I heard that Justin had gone to the priory I was upset. Then I found out that the band had split. I don't think things happened in the best way, I've heard so much about how things ended and how Dan and Jus are to one another now but I don't know what to believe. I don't think I want to be involved anymore.

It seems to me that things happened badly and there's a lot of tension between, fans, old band memebers, new band members etc. It's hard for me to explain.

After seeing the Stone Gods at the Waterfront I'm torn as to what to think. I like them but I still feel like there's been all the bad stuff happen and it's like Richie came in and took away Frankie. I definitely KNOW that's not the case but it still feels that way. It was Frankie's choice to leave and Richie just came in to be the new bassist so the Darkness could continue.

Now it seems like sneaky things have been done and Justin has been getting the brunt of all this. No one really know the truth. I've never known there to be such politics in a band. After a little while of disliking Justin and the whole band that's passed and I realise how much I admire them all. Especially Justin. Still hard to explian.

I feel angry, cheated and lonely at times when thinking about this and listening to the Darkness can produce two reactions. The nostalgia will be too much and I will cry. Or I will smile and laugh and be extremely happy thinking about the good times. Obviously the latter is preferable and more common. I miss the Darkness I made great friends and met people I never would've met otherwise. I've been able to relate good stories about going to see them play football and I've been able to joke about funny stuff we've thought up during trips. (Eyeball catsuit, anyone?)

My problem is I became too involved and it ruined the band for me. People came onto the forum who were complete twats (Not going to mention any names but I'm sure the few people that will read this will understand who I mean). There were so many things that irritated me, one that stands out in my mind was when they had to cancel a gig because Justin had hurt his voice; I believe it was lyringitus or something (although the papers said it was throat cancer and fans panicked) Anways, I thought poor Justin hope he gets better soon.

I then headed to the forum to have a nice chat with people about poor Jus and his poor throat. No such luck, there were people slagging him off left rigth and centre. These people were supposed to be fans and they were slagging him off for bein sick. What did they want? For him to sing and for it to be rubbish so they could moan about that? Or for him to get worse so more gigs would be cancelled. Wankers.

I rushed in as did a few others to put these twats in their place, however we were the minority. How can these people call themselves fans I just don't understand it. I pains me to think that people can be that selfish and cruel, it wasn't as if their tickets were going to be trown away and no gig ever. It was rescheduled and their tickets still valid.

After that I was wary of who I made friends with.

Then everyone was fighting. There were these rumours floating around about the band, there were stalkers that thought themselves better than the Six (No one is better that the Six. Remember this: It could save your life.)

Politics, rumors, fights etc all ruined being a fan for me.

Since the Darkness I haven't got involved with any band like that. I've made friends with bands and become a fan that way but I am never trawling the forum getting into all the gossip and rumours again.

For example I am a fan of the TV show The Mighty Boosh. I've had people offer to introduce me to Noel and Julian on a number of occasions and I've always turned them down. I do not want to be a fan any longer, if I meet people I admire by chance then great but I'd rather not. Simply because I don't want to meet a hero and my love for them crushed. It's devestating. It's horrible because I can see in Noel, Justin. That scares me.

Once again I have no way with words and am finding this hard to explain.

Bascially, I miss the Darkness, will never be a hardcore fan again and feel quite guilty that I like the Stone Gods.

Vodka Orange Slices.

Vodka Orange Slices

Awesome.
Making them for a small gathering tomorrow night. I've used the inside of the oranges to make juice so woo to freshlysqueezed orange juice.

I'd like to know about other recipes similar to this. Party food I guess. I am willing to learn

The Basics of Electro Style

I love the colours and energy of the Electro scene and as you will probably know I also love the music. So I'm just going to go through some of the basics of what I think looks electro.

Clothes
I think this changes a lot and being a Boosh fan I mainly look at Noel fielding for the clothes even though I am female and he is not. I think this style takes it's roots from some of the more light hearted heavy metal from the 70s. Think glitter, cowboy boots and big hair.

Chelsea boots are good if you dont want to be bouncing around in heels all night. Check these out from office.:

Also hi-tops in bright colours are pretty good:

When it comes to clothes think bright and think a bit 80's - I love this:

Pacman is awesomeness. I think I should go and find a dress like this for myself...
http://www.vintagedoctor.com some awesome shizzle on there.

Bright t-shirts are my favourite preferably with a cassette or something on them. Primark is good for cheap t-shirts. As is H&M, albeit a bit emo in places.

This is a bit awesome.
And this from http://www.cyberdog.co.uk

Bright clashing layers work well. Think Neon and Ultra from the Mighty Boosh.

These girls are Robots in Disguise. See my previous post for their myspace details. Wonderful, wonderful band.

Skinny jeans in bright colours are also good.

Try to steer clear of being too emo when you do this look.

Hotness. Yes. Too much black. Good hair though. Pretty girl. Don't mope and cut yourself in emo fashion.

Makeup

This is the bit I love.
Bright colours, MAC and Barry M are my favourites.

Here is my eye on a night out. The other eye had the same colours in different places in the design.

I'll leave it at that for now but I will update with post with pictures of hair and some more makeup.

Myspace Bands You Should Really Check Out:

Here is ia list of bands that I think are pretty wonderful. They are in my top friends so if I happen to mess up these links then head over to my Myspace page:

Myspace/Jettica

Naturally, my band first. FButtons - Experimental Electro Rock. A bit of random music to brighten your day with tunes such as 'Wackle' and 'Ricockulous' . Devine inspiration from a day of shopping with my Sister and a band was born 6 hours later

Robots in Disguise - Electro bitches. Awesomeness. And sexiness.

Nemo - More wonderous electro. These boys are talented, beautiful and just plain wonderful. I can't sing their praises enough. Singer James has appeared in various episodes of The Mighty Boosh which I seriously rate as one of the best comedies ever. Great band, seriously dancable tunes.

Trash Money - More Electro but it is a sing-a-long fest of awesome beats and groovy lyrics.

Nicolai Prowse - Beautiful singer/songwriter with gorgeous songs. Check him out and fall in love. Formerly with the band Do Me Bad Things (who were absolutely amazing, both live and on CD).

I'll leave you with those lovelies for now. I promise some rock in my next Myspace bands post. xx

Snow!

How wonderful.
Reminds me of Austria.
Bloody cold though.
Been up early to watch grand prix. So sleepy.

Easter now!
All day drinking shall ensue.

Earn money using social networking sites such as Myspace and Facebook...

It's a website that works on the same principale of other social networking sites. However, the more people you get to look at your profile, the more times you comment etc you earn money for it.

It's pretty cool and it looks really good unlike other sites out there. It's red. I like red.

Where my musical alligences realy lie.

Some of you may find this quite sad but, I pay all the CDs onto the computer so I can make compilations. Great, right?

Well, todays driving music is a mix of Michael Buble (Jazzy Swing Music) John Barrowman (Captain Jack/Man of musicals singing songs from Musicals and being generally a bit wonderful) Michelle Branch (American singer/Song Writer) , 1 Carpenters song (Old school awesomeness) and 1 Kelly Clarkson Song (Won American Idol? Gorgeous voice.)

So no rock, no electro nothing that's really worth boasting about liking. This is why I'm different. I'm looking forward to listening to this CD.

Screw you all with the preconceptions of what is cool. I rock. I'll turn it up to 11 and sing my little heart out. Best way to start of the day!

Of course we now need a picture of The Captain. If only I could take Torchwood to work and just watch it instead of doing anything useful.

Alas I can't. This Cd is also taking a long time to burn and I think I'm going to be late. Hmm. Must find my sunglasses so i don't get blinded. Byesee all. x

Music

Eurgh I feel like crap today. Not sure what's going on but I just feel sick. Not looking forward to work because it'll just be grumpy people.

I'm now going to listen the Cascada. Bye x

Now I think this Dior ring is simply stunning. And that little diamond is just wonderful. To have that kind of money to spend on a ring must be wonderful. I shall have that kind of money one day.

Someone buy this and love it just as I would. I don't usually go for gold but I've fallen for this big time.

Eerie sounds

I was walking from my car to work this morning and I could hear what sounded like children shouthing and laughing. It go louder and louder the closer I got to work but not once did I see anyone and it was hard to make out what was being said. No one was around and it was windy so perhaps it was the wind blowing through the trees but anyway it was very scary.

I love eerie stuff like that but when I was alone I was somewhat scared.

On a gaming note:

I got Sonic and the Secret Rings. Very hard. Wiimote is held sidways and you tilt backwards and forwards for speed. Then wiggle it around for various moves. I've only played an hour of it and it's tough getting used to it but it looks wonderful and is very very fast. Fabulous.

And Zoo Tycoon. I'm struggling with this, those damn animals are never happy I've completed the tutorials and now two of the Scenarios. Also tough and a bit dull. Tutorials are rubbish so I'm just getting the hang of it. Obviously graphics aren't wonderful because it's on the DS but gameplay isn't that bad but the interface in quite confusing. However I played for about two hours and wasn't bored. Sim games are addictive.

On a literary note:

From Blue to Black - Joel Lane. I'm 4 chapters in and I don't know quite what to think yet. The writing is very samey when talking about the music that the band are playing just using similar adjectives and similes to describe and it's starting to annoy me somewhat. Written in first person from the POV of Daivd the bass player of the band Triangle. He's sleeping with the vocalist Karl, hottness in that sense but I'm finding it hard work. I'll let you know what I think when I finish the book. Shouldn't judge it quite yet.

It seems similar to anyone writing about made up bands in a roleplay or fanfiction. I can read that online. A book is published, surely because it's a bit different than everything else. Obviously not. Maybe it's the abusive childhood of Karl's that reminds me of all the roleplayers that have Uke characters that have been abused and cry a lot. Fucking Emo.

Work and Play in one post.

I have to go to work today and I’m not looking forward to it. It’s a dull and unrewarding job and I hate it. Yet I’m reluctant to get another becayuse waht’s the point in going from one rubbish job to another. I should wait for an awesome job to come along rather than getting settled into something else I know I’ll dislike. I’m doing promotions for a wonderful Photography company but i’m on my feet all day on sites that don’t have enough footfall for me to earn big. Plus the manager is a wanker.

If anyone comes across the perfect job for me. Events or A&R or something then let me know.

On a happier note: I ordered Sonic and the Secret Rings for the Wii a few days ago and it should be here today. Yay. I also ordered Zoo Tycoon for the DS. I’ve gone Nintendo mad. I was also doing the missions of Mario and Sonic Olympic games last night and trying to do the table tennis on it. It’s so so hard. Let me know if you have the same issues with it or if I’m doing something wrong. Bowser doesn’t do backhands very well, stupid dinosaur.

And naturally we have to have the new social networking site of the year on this blog.

www.musicfinity.com

Market you band via the site.
It's free. Similar to sites like Myspace and Pure Volume but with tool designed especially for bands by Record Labels.

Musical Genius

Not only will I be linking you to bands and artists I think worthy of attention I will also be showing you where to get the cheapest CDs and things on the internet.

http://www.myspace.com/fuckbuttonsmusic

Hello all. I want to give you all an insight into the struggles and laughs of my little world. I am not a hugely important person nor am I the most wonderful person you shall meet, but I know what I’m talking about. I’ve worked in the music industry with Musicfinity and Broeknrule. I have met the stars and have organised various events for all sorts of amazing people. I just want people out in the world to listen, understand and comment.

I want to make friends.

I want to gain insight.

I may even ask you for advice at times.

But overall I want to be heard.
